Silent Hill: Townfall on PS5 Pro runs at higher resolutions

Konami released Silent Hill: Townfall for PS5 and PS5 Pro; the PS5 Pro build uses hardware-accelerated Lumen and runs at 1620p in quality and 1215p in performance.

Konami released Silent Hill: Townfall for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro a few days ago. Developed by Screen Burn Interactive, the game is a new entry in the Silent Hill franchise and uses a first-person perspective. It is available on the PlayStation Store in Standard ($49.99) and Deluxe ($59.99) editions.

A technical analysis of the PS5 Pro build found the game uses hardware-accelerated Lumen lighting in all graphics modes, including performance mode. On PS5 Pro the game renders at an internal resolution of 1620p in quality mode and 1215p in performance mode, producing more detailed reflections and increased image clarity than the base PS5 model.

The PS5 Pro build applies the console’s additional processing power to enable the higher internal resolutions and the hardware-accelerated lighting across configurations.

The PC release has technical problems at launch. Players and tests note compilation stutter and a worse traversal stutter in some areas. The PC build lacks integrated frame generation even though the game is built on Unreal Engine 5. These issues reduce smoothness and responsiveness for some PC players and mean the PC version does not match the steadier performance seen on PS5 Pro in certain scenes.

A technical appraisal described Townfall as “an aesthetically masterful game that captures the essence of the series with great care.”

The story follows Simon Ordell, who returns to the island of St. Amelia to “put things right.” The setting is a fog-shrouded town that appears quiet but is not at rest. The title focuses on atmospheric, close-quarters horror in a first-person view.

Townfall is built on Unreal Engine 5. At launch, the PS5 Pro build features hardware-accelerated Lumen and higher internal resolutions, while those features are not present on the base PS5 or fully implemented on the PC version.
