Sonic 4 Wraps Filming; Fowler Shares Metal Sonic Puppet
Director Jeff Fowler posted a photo of a Metal Sonic puppet as Sonic the Hedgehog 4 completes filming ahead of its March 19, 2027 theatrical release.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has completed principal photography, and director Jeff Fowler posted a photo of a detailed Metal Sonic puppet. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on March 19, 2027.
Fowler posted the image on social media and added a message, writing, “on behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can’t wait to share.” The puppet shown in the photo features glossy blue metallic plating and red optics that reference the character’s classic video game appearance.
Production sources say principal photography has concluded and the project will move into post-production, where visual effects, sound design and editing will be finished ahead of the release.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has also finished filming and is scheduled to debut in theaters on Friday, Dec. 20, 2026. Marketing for the third film has been limited; the production confirmed the appearance of Shadow the Hedgehog and drew on material from the 3D games Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog.
Metal Sonic is a recurring robotic antagonist created to match Sonic’s speed and abilities. Shadow the Hedgehog is typically portrayed as an anti-hero with abilities similar to Sonic’s.
Fowler’s post and the puppet image are among the earliest promotional materials released for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 while studios complete post-production work.
