Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds adds Duel Mode and Sega vehicles
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ first Year Two update adds Duel Mode, a Super Slot for Gadgets and vehicles inspired by the Dreamcast, Genesis and Sega Saturn.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ first Year Two update adds new racing features and three vehicles inspired by Sega hardware. The update is available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game.
Duel Mode replaces the standard 12-player race with a one-on-one contest. Players must manage the distance between their vehicle and their opponent while deciding when to use items. The development team described the format as one that lets races “unfold in entirely different ways.”
The update adds the Super Slot, a dedicated space for one-slot Gadgets. Gadgets placed in the slot receive stronger effects, giving players more options for combining equipment and adjusting their racing strategies.
The Sega Consoles Pack includes vehicles based on the Dreamcast, Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn. The developers said the pack began as an April Fool’s joke before becoming an in-game addition. The vehicles use colors, shapes and button layouts associated with each console.
The Dreamcast vehicle has the console’s rounded shape and distinctive color scheme. The Genesis and Sega Saturn vehicles have sharper silhouettes and more muted colors. The team also recreated the Dreamcast’s Visual Memory Unit using original reference material from the console’s era.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launched in 2025 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The game has an average PlayStation Store rating of 4.57 based on more than 10,000 reviews.
The Standard Edition costs $39.99 on the PlayStation Store. The Digital Deluxe Edition and Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition each cost $59.99.
