Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Wraps Filming; Metal Sonic Teased

Filming on Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has wrapped, director Jeff Fowler announced on social media. Fowler posted an image showing himself alongside a Metal Sonic prop and said principal photography was complete.

Fowler posted, “And that’s a wrap on Sonic Movie 4 !!! On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can’t wait to share.” The image highlights Metal Sonic, a character that briefly appeared in the end credits of the previous film.

Paramount Pictures and Sega have scheduled a wide theatrical release for March 19, 2027. No additional distribution details were provided in the announcement.

Several principal cast members are expected to return. Ben Schwartz will voice Sonic, Jim Carrey will play Dr. Eggman, Idris Elba will return as Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey will reprise Tails, and Keanu Reeves is expected to return as Shadow. Kristen Bell has been announced to play Amy Rose.

Fowler’s post links the production to the character reveals at the end of the third film, but it did not disclose plot details or the size of Metal Sonic’s role. No further casting, filming locations, or production timelines were released.

With principal photography finished, the production has moved into post-production, where visual effects, sound design and editing will be completed ahead of the March 2027 release. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is the fourth feature in the live-action/CGI franchise.
