Sony blurs Hellraiser: Revival PS5 trailer on YouTube
Sony added VHS-style blurring to violent scenes in the Hellraiser: Revival PS5 trailer on its YouTube channel; the unedited trailer is on the game’s official website.
Sony’s YouTube channel uploaded a censored version of the Hellraiser: Revival trailer that uses VHS-style blurring and distortion to obscure violent scenes. The unedited trailer is available on the game’s official website.
The censored footage centers on the Genesis Configuration, a puzzle box adapted from the Lament Configuration. A press release describes the Genesis Configuration as a combat tool that lets the player “banish your enemies with gruesome executions to gather their Suffering and unleash a variety of abilities.”
The release lists abilities tied to the box, including telekinesis to “launch saw blades, rail spikes and more at enemies to maim and dismember them,” pyrokinesis to “absorb incandescent fire to burn away foes and the environment,” and summoning the “iconic Hell Chains to tear your opponents apart without mercy.”
Trailer footage suggests a dual-weapon design, with the Genesis Configuration used in one hand and a conventional firearm or melee weapon in the other. The clip pairs close-up violent executions with scenes of environmental destruction and supernatural attacks.
A journalist who previewed a demo last year reported more than an hour of play featuring a tense atmosphere and pronounced violence, with stealth sections and conventional weapon encounters. The journalist did not test the Configuration’s supernatural powers during that session and noted the title pushes near age-rating limits.
No official release date has been announced. The developer and publisher have not confirmed a schedule, but promotional materials and the trailer’s timing have led some to expect the game may arrive before Halloween.
Sony’s decision to publish a censored trailer on its YouTube channel while the developer hosts an uncensored version on the official website gives viewers a choice of which version to view and reflects differing content rules for platform-hosted channels.
