Sony to Close PS3 and PS Vita PlayStation Stores by July 2027

Sony will shut the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita in most countries in July 2027. The company will close the PS3 store in Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua starting August 2026, with additional PS3 closures in parts of Latin America and the Middle East beginning late 2026.

Sony provided a regional timetable for the permanent shutdown and noted the schedule reflects updates to its online commerce systems.

Sony explained the change is tied to payment processing and security. “As the PlayStation Store continues to evolve to support modern commerce systems, including updated payment processing standards, PS3 and PS Vita are no longer able to support these updates at the level required,” the company wrote.

The announcement follows Sony’s earlier notice that it will end PlayStation disc production. Those are separate actions affecting digital storefronts and physical media for recent and older consoles.

Sony has not released details on how purchases, downloads, account balances or previously acquired content will be handled after each regional store closes. The company did not provide operational guidance in its statement.

The PS3 and PS Vita stores have remained available long after the consoles’ releases. Sony’s timetable sets a firm endpoint for store access in most countries by July 2027.
