Sony to End Sales of Trend Micro Safety App for PS4

Sony announced it will stop selling the Trend Micro safety app for PlayStation 4 on Aug. 25, 2026, and that the Trend Micro Kids Safety and Web Security services for PS4 will be discontinued on Aug. 25, 2027. The company did not offer a reason for the discontinuation.

The app provided a browser safety layer for PlayStation consoles. The Kids Safety edition was designed to block access to websites considered inappropriate for younger users, while the Web Security edition aimed to block fraudulent or unsafe sites for adult users.

Trend Micro protection first appeared on PlayStation 3, where it was available for free for a period. On PS4 the service has been a paid option sold through the PlayStation Store.

A current listing appears in at least one regional PlayStation Store, with a South American store page showing a price of USD 19.99. According to Sony’s announcement, those listings will be removed and new purchases will not be allowed after Aug. 25, 2026.

Existing subscriptions and the service itself will remain functional until the shutdown date of Aug. 25, 2027. After that date, Trend Micro protections for PS4 will stop working.

Sony did not provide details about regional rollouts, refunds or replacement options in the notice. The announced schedule gives users about one year between the end of sales and the full shutdown of the services.
