Sony reportedly weighing PS5 revivals of classic PlayStation IPs

Leaker Nate the Hate reported that Sony is exploring the possibility of reviving older PlayStation franchises for the PS5. Titles mentioned during the discussion include inFAMOUS, Sly Cooper, Ape Escape and MotorStorm. Sources say the effort is at an early, exploratory stage.

Nate the Hate, an industry insider with a record of accurate leaks, posted that ‘there’s truth to Sony exploring and considering reviving some of its older, unused IPs.’ He characterized the wording as study rather than confirmation of active projects.

Earlier speculation circulated about inFAMOUS remakes, but those claims have not been confirmed through multiple sources.

The reports come as the PlayStation 5 approaches 100 million units sold and as some players have criticized Sony’s emphasis on live-service projects. Community inquiries prompted the leaker to name several dormant series; other franchises that could be discussed include Jak & Daxter, Killzone, Resistance and Gravity Rush.

Industry observers say exploring intellectual property can include remastered collections, remakes, smaller spin-offs, licensing deals, or partnerships with independent developers. Those options could allow a company to assess interest without allocating major first-party teams.

No PlayStation studio or Sony spokesperson has confirmed any revival projects. For now the matter appears to be internal consideration rather than active development, and Sony has not issued a public statement.
