Sony Rolls Out PS5 Security Update in November

Sony Interactive Entertainment released PS5 system software update 26.07-14.22.00 on Nov. 1, 2026. The company published patch notes the following day, describing the release as containing security fixes for the console.

The notes do not identify the affected systems or explain the technical changes. Sony has not confirmed whether the update addresses the latest reported PS5 jailbreak.

The release comes before the expected launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. The notes do not mention new features, performance changes or support for specific games.

Sony has not provided a timetable for wider access to Quick Spectral Super Resolution, or QSSR, on standard PS5 consoles. The upscaling technology is active in some first-party games, while external developers do not yet have broad access.

QSSR uses artificial intelligence to improve image detail and reduce visual instability on the standard PS5. The PS5 Pro uses the company’s separate PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, technology.

In a description of QSSR, Sony wrote: “While PSSR remains the gold standard on PS5 Pro, QSSR provides some notable improvements to both image detail and image stability on PS5.”

Sony developed QSSR through its collaboration with AMD. The technology uses a streamlined neural network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation designed for PS5 performance. Sony has not confirmed whether it will release another system update when external developers receive wider access to QSSR.
