Sony Raises PS Plus Extra and Premium Prices Worldwide

Sony raised U.S. monthly PS Plus Extra to $16.99 from $14.99 and Premium to $19.99 from $17.99; the increases apply to new or lapsed customers, not active plans.

Sony has increased prices for its PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium tiers worldwide, with the U.S. monthly Extra plan rising from $14.99 to $16.99 and Premium from $17.99 to $19.99. The changes apply to customers who sign up after the adjustments take effect or whose subscriptions lapsed; active, non-expired subscriptions retain existing rates until they expire.

The pricing updates rolled out broadly this week after Sony notified customers that PS Plus prices for new customers would rise starting May 20 in select regions. The company’s initial notice mentioned only the Essential tier; regional storefront listings and customer purchase flows show Extra and Premium also increased.

Monthly and three-month prices rose in multiple markets. In the U.S., the one-month Essential plan moved from $9.99 to $10.99 and the three-month Essential plan from $24.99 to $27.99. In the U.K., one-month Essential went from £6.99 to £7.99, Extra from £10.99 to £11.99 and Premium from £13.49 to £14.99. Three-month Extra increased to £34.99 from £31.99, and three-month Premium rose to £43.99 from £39.99.

Sony has left 12-month pricing unchanged in many countries, but readers in some markets reported increases to annual plans as well, with Australia among those cited. There is no company-wide public chart explaining each region’s adjusted prices; affected customers have discovered the new rates through platform purchase pages and regional stores.

Reaction from subscribers and industry observers focused on communication and timing. A PlayStation editor described the broader increases as “quite sneaky and misleading.” A reader poll referenced by the editor found 18% of respondents thought the Essential tier represented value for money in 2026.

Sony has not provided a detailed public explanation for why its initial customer notice named only the Essential tier while Extra and Premium prices also changed. The company has not announced a universal grandfathering policy beyond maintaining rates for active, non-expired subscriptions. Industry pricing adjustments have continued as companies manage content costs and service offerings.
