Sony to Screen State of Play at Alamo Drafthouse Theaters
Sony will screen next month’s State of Play livestream at select Alamo Drafthouse locations in the U.S., the first theatrical State of Play showing since 2018.
Sony will present next month’s State of Play livestream in select Alamo Drafthouse theaters across the United States. The presentation is scheduled as an hour-plus showcase of PlayStation 5 news and updates, with Marvel’s Wolverine confirmed to open the show.
Screenings are planned at Alamo Drafthouse locations in Raleigh, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas and New York City. The theater chain will offer in-venue viewing for fans who prefer a cinema experience to watching the livestream at home.
Alamo Drafthouse will offer themed concessions and promotional items during the screenings, including a menu tied to the Wolverine theme and exclusive giveaways, organizers say. The chain is known for strict theater etiquette and a curated food and drink service.
Sony Pictures acquired Alamo Drafthouse in 2024. Organizers say many of the allocated seats for the screenings have already been claimed and some locations show limited or no availability.
Sammy Barker, a PlayStation editor with more than 15 years of experience, noted the theatrical screenings reflect a larger fan-event approach and cautioned reception will depend on individual taste.
State of Play broadcasts are Sony’s platform for revealing trailers, updates and release dates for PlayStation titles. The company last screened a State of Play to cinemas in 2018.
