Sony unveils two new PS5 headsets
Sony unveiled two PS5 headsets with planar magnetic drivers and AI noise rejection; Pulse ships this holiday, Pulse Edge arrives in early 2027.
Sony announced two new headsets for PlayStation 5 players on Sept. 15: the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and the Pulse Edge Wireless Headset. The models use larger planar magnetic drivers and include microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection for clearer voice chat.
The standard Pulse is slated to appear in select markets during the holiday season. The Pulse Edge is scheduled to follow in early 2027. Exact launch dates, preorder windows and pricing have not been disclosed.
Both headsets ship with a USB-C adapter for PlayStation Link, which provides lossless, low-latency audio and lets the headsets connect to supported PS5 consoles, Sony’s PS Portal handheld and compatible PCs and Macs.
The company describes the larger planar drivers as intended to deliver more precise spatial audio so players can better detect directional cues such as footsteps and reloads. Sony says the drivers are also designed to boost bass response while preserving the clean sound profile of earlier Pulse models.
The Pulse Edge adds higher-end hardware and controls. Each Edge driver uses eight magnets per driver, compared with four magnets per driver in the standard Pulse. The Edge includes active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone with AI noise rejection and a hidden internal microphone that remains available when the boom is removed. The premium model offers in-headset game audio and chat balance controls for PS5, a dedicated 3.5mm audio jack and a carrying case.
Both headsets use rotating earcups that lay flat for travel. Sony did not provide model-specific battery life figures or detailed compatibility notes for third-party devices, and technical details beyond magnet counts and PlayStation Link support were not included in the announcement.
