Speed Freeks arrives on Xbox May 21 with Creation Mode
Speed Freeks, a Warhammer 40,000 vehicular combat racer from Caged Element and Wired Productions, launches on Xbox May 21 with cross-platform play and a live Creation Mode.
Caged Element and publisher Wired Productions said Speed Freeks will launch on Xbox on May 21. The game supports cross-platform play with PC and other platforms and includes a live Creation Mode that lets players build and test maps in real time.
Speed Freeks combines arcade-style stunt driving with vehicular shooting in the Warhammer 40,000 setting. Available vehicle types include fast assassin trikes, heavier Grot tanks and airborne Deffkopta, each with different handling and roles. The game features an 8v8 Deff Rally race mode focused on checkpoints and speed, and Kill Konvoy, a team mode in which players deliver explosives to an opposing Stompa mech that functions as a moving base.
The developer emphasized movement and skill expression. Vehicles can change momentum quickly on ground and walls, and players can combine abilities such as Dash, handbrake turns and propulsion boosts to alter speed and trajectory. The studio said player experimentation during development influenced several mechanics and raised the game’s skill ceiling.
Creation Mode is a live level editor where players and friends can enter a blank map, place objects while a session is active and drive around mid-construction. Maps created in the editor can be uploaded to a Workshop for others to download and play. Caged Element reported more than 400 editor assets will be available at launch. The feature was added to the PC version earlier and was developed from community suggestions during PC testing.
Caged Element worked with Games Workshop to match in-game vehicle models and visuals to Warhammer 40,000 lore. The game offers customization options including alternate weapons, additional kit items and paint choices for vehicles and pit bosses, according to the studio.
Chris Mallinson, co-founder and game director at Caged Element, wrote that the team focused on mobility and player expression and described Speed Freeks as “a full-on vehicle shooter.” The studio previously developed Grip, and it expects the title to appeal to players who favor fast, mechanic-driven multiplayer racing.
Players can add Speed Freeks to their Xbox wishlist ahead of the May 21 release.
