Spyro returns with true flight and Tom Kenny in 2027

Toys for Bob unveiled a new Spyro game at the Xbox Games Showcase, presenting a redesigned Spyro able to perform active flight rather than only glide. The studio confirmed Tom Kenny will return as the dragon’s voice and set a Spring 2027 release for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and cloud via Game Pass, Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.

The project is an original mainline Spyro adventure from the team that developed the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and the Skylanders series. Paul Yan, studio head at Toys for Bob, described the developers as ‘huge Spyro fans’ and noted the studio consulted many of the original creators to keep core aspects of the character while adding new mechanics.

A primary design change is true flight. Toys for Bob expanded Spyro’s wingspan and ran experiments to make flight feel both nimble and physically grounded. The studio said aerial movement is intended to let players move fluidly between ground combat and sustained airborne exploration, rather than functioning only as a short glide or time-limited section.

The studio emphasized exploration and discovery, building worlds around freer aerial movement and varied, colorful environments. The announcement trailer introduced a darker antagonist and higher emotional stakes; Yan stated the story will push Spyro to ‘new emotional depths’ while retaining the series’ charm.

Toys for Bob described the updated character design as an evolution of the Reignited look, adjusted to support new combat and traversal abilities while remaining familiar to long-term fans. Tom Kenny’s return was presented as part of keeping Spyro’s established voice and personality.

Spyro’s new game will be available on Game Pass at launch for console and PC and on Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. The studio said more information about the game’s world, systems and story will be revealed in the coming months.
