Square Enix open to DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Part 3
Square Enix may add DLC to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 if player demand is strong.
Square Enix says it may release downloadable content for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 depending on player demand. The company opted not to produce DLC for the second game, Rebirth, to protect the third installment’s schedule and quality.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the development team avoided running DLC work for Rebirth in parallel with the next game because doing both at once would have affected the third installment’s timeline and polish. The team moved straight on to the sequel to keep production on track, which left Rebirth without post-launch expansions.
Hamaguchi added, “As for DLC beyond the third installment, I believe that will ultimately depend on how strongly fans continue to support Final Fantasy 7 as both a title and a franchise. If there is significant demand, we’d certainly be open to exploring those possibilities proactively.”
Square Enix identifies Part 3 as the final act of the Remake trilogy. Industry discussion indicates Part 3 may be larger than the earlier entries and could cover narrative and gameplay material remaining from the 1997 original.
Observers note that the introduction of an airship could broaden exploration options and change how the game is structured, which could create opportunities for additional content after launch. Rumors also suggest a reveal for the final installment may arrive in the near future.
The studio has not provided details on what any DLC would include. Possible forms could range from story expansions to standalone missions or character-focused content, but Square Enix has not confirmed specific plans.
