Square Enix doubles down on Switch 2 multiplatform push

CEO Takashi Kiryu announced Square Enix will polish select IPs and prioritize Nintendo Switch 2 releases while advancing a multiplatform release strategy.

Square Enix will increase investment in selected franchises and target releases for the Nintendo Switch 2, CEO Takashi Kiryu outlined during a briefing on the company’s development priorities.

Kiryu explained the effort centers on polishing promising intellectual properties so they perform better across multiple platforms and to capture more upside from new IP, while continuing support for the Switch 2 following the console’s launch.

Kiryu added: “We will polish promising IPs so that we can deliver certain upside from those new IPs. On top of that we’d like to further promote the multi-platform strategy especially the Nintendo Switch 2.”

The company’s approach links development focus on a smaller set of projects with broader distribution across consoles and PC. Square Enix intends to refine selected titles before release to improve their competitive standing on each platform, with the Switch 2 identified as a priority target.

Square Enix did not provide specific release dates or a timeline for titles tied to the announcement.

The Switch 2 launched recently, and Square Enix has a history of releasing games on Nintendo hardware as well as on competing consoles and PC. The publisher said it will continue that pattern while directing extra resources to chosen IPs.

Square Enix is a major Japanese developer and publisher known for franchises such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts.
