S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 PS5 gets free Update 2.0 with visual upgrades

GSC Game World will release Update 2.0 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl on PlayStation 5 on Aug. 20, 2026. The patch is free for PS5 players and arrives the same day as the game’s first major paid expansion, Cost of Hope.

Update 2.0 includes upgraded lighting systems and redesigned landscapes intended to change the look and feel of the game’s environments. The patch also introduces Custom Rules, which let players adjust difficulty parameters to match their preferred playstyle.

The update adds three new binoculars that use different technologies and offer distinct functions to help players scout terrain, identify targets and plan approaches. These tools can be found across the game world or purchased from certain in-game traders.

New weapons added in the free update are the Arev assault rifle, two designated marksman rifles called the GP3A and SKP, and a Fora-230 submachine gun. The additions expand the available combat options for players on PS5.

Cost of Hope, the first major DLC for the title, will also launch on Aug. 20. The expansion focuses on the long-running conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions and opens new areas for exploration, including the Iron Forest, CNPP and a region called the Spatial Bubble. Cost of Hope is included in the Ultimate Edition of the base game or will be sold separately for $29.99.

To mark the release, the developer has launched a dedicated website where players can vote for Duty or Freedom and complete a short quiz for a chance to win limited S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-themed prizes. The site includes additional information and promotional material ahead of the Aug. 20 release.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was released nearly two years ago and has received ongoing post-launch updates. Update 2.0 and the Cost of Hope expansion extend the game’s visual updates and playable content on PlayStation 5.
