Star Fox Creator Prefers Movie Fox McCloud to Switch 2 Design
Takaya Imamura wrote on X that he prefers The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s Fox McCloud to the new Star Fox design on Nintendo Switch 2, while praising the game’s clear direction.
Takaya Imamura, the former Nintendo artist who created the original Star Fox team, wrote on X that he prefers The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s version of Fox McCloud to the character design used in the new Star Fox game for Nintendo Switch 2.
Imamura did not reject the game’s design. He praised the in-game version for having a clear, well-defined direction and described his preference as personal. On X he wrote: “Personally, I prefer the movie version, but I thought this version was good too because its direction was clear and well-defined!”
Imamura is credited with shaping the look and personalities of the original Star Fox crew in the 1990s. His post identifies him as someone connected to the franchise’s origins and comments directly on two recent portrayals of the series lead.
The two portrayals referenced are a cinematic interpretation of Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the in-game design unveiled for Nintendo’s Switch 2. Imamura’s remarks compare those specific versions and note a personal preference for the movie take while acknowledging the game team’s defined artistic approach.
