Star Fox Zero co-op: Falco called ‘thick’, camera problems reported
Players in a local Star Fox Zero co-op session called Falco “thick” and reported repeated camera disruptions and an opaque multiplayer setup that forced level restarts.
Players in a local Star Fox Zero cooperative session described Falco as “thick” and spent much of the run comparing character redesigns while encountering persistent camera and control problems. The issues affected aim, view and the process of enabling two-player mode.
The group reported that the game defaults to solo play. To activate co-op they had to start a level, quit immediately to the stage select screen and re-enter the level. That step had to be repeated for every stage, which the players called opaque and frustrating.
The session highlighted how the pilot’s and gunner’s perspectives are separated. When the pilot triggered cinematic camera angles or barrel-rolled, the gunner’s view and aim were often disrupted. One player yelled, “I CAN’T SEE!” during a camera shift. Another observed, “Every time you move, I can’t see what I’m meant to hit.” On several occasions the group exited and re-entered levels after controls reverted to one-player mode.
Specific gameplay sequences amplified the problem. The Chicken Walker/Arwing transformation presented fast pacing that left gunners unable to hit targets. The Gyrowing sections slowed the tempo and required careful positioning to deploy the hacking probe, Direct-i, which the players described as tedious. The group also noticed occasional frame-rate drops during large on-screen battles, while noting certain dogfight moments and slow-motion exchanges as visually striking.
Players discussed character redesigns and mentioned Krystal, Panther, Katt and Bill Gray in addition to Falco. They tried accents for Peppy, Slippy and Falco during play. Audio elements drew reactions as well: players said classic Lylat speech was missing and described the new robotic voice used by the in-game hacking drone as grating.
The session took place during an extended local play test on a TV with a handheld controller in multiplayer. Players continued through multiple levels, alternating pilot and gunner roles, and repeatedly encountered the same camera and multiplayer setup issues while also noting specific visual set pieces they liked.
