Ubisoft’s 2024 action-adventure Star Wars Outlaws was added to the PS Plus Extra catalog yesterday, prompting a split among PS5 players over the game’s story, gameplay and minor bugs.

The game launched in 2024 with a Metacritic average of 75/100, nominations for more than a dozen awards and sales that fell short of Ubisoft’s expectations. Early reviews flagged technical problems, repetitive mission structure and uneven stealth mechanics; those topics reappeared in a popular thread on the PS Plus subreddit after the title joined the subscription service.

The subreddit thread drew more than 200 comments from players offering both praise and criticism. One post described the title as having “didn’t deserve the hate it got.” A top reply noted players accessing the game on PS Plus were often playing after multiple updates: “You’re playing the version of the game after they had all of the updates, and you didn’t pay for it at full price.” Another user who bought the game at launch reported not encountering any game-breaking bugs after patches.

Other posts focused on elements some players still find lacking. One comment called the story “bad at worst, completely uninteresting at best.” Another described the gameplay as “meh, a stealth game that seemed like it wanted to be an action game, but ends up that neither part is good.” Several players mentioned control and interface issues during combat and climbing, with one describing the feel as “almost clunky.” Another player wrote that the experience had become “boring.”

Ubisoft issued multiple updates after launch aimed at fixing bugs and improving systems. Players who played post-patch versions credited those updates for a smoother experience, while others said core design issues such as mission variety and the balance between stealth and action remained.
