Starfield PS5 patch 1.16.242 fixes autosave, cuts crashes

Bethesda released Starfield patch 1.16.242 for PS5 to fix multiple crashes, including autosave failures, crashes when viewing Creations, legacy Creations data and Outpost item removal.

Bethesda has released patch 1.16.242 for Starfield on PlayStation 5. The update is available to download now through the console’s standard update process.

Bethesda’s patch notes list five primary fixes: a crash that could occur when viewing Creations; a crash that could sometimes happen during autosave; crashes caused by Creations containing legacy data; a crash triggered when removing certain types of items in Outpost mode; and general crash and stability fixes across platforms.

Bethesda issued two earlier patches aimed at the PS5 release. Those updates resolved several crash issues in testing, but reports of additional stability problems continued, leading to the new patch.

Players reported that the autosave failure could prevent progress from being saved reliably. The update addresses that autosave crash along with the Creations- and Outpost-related failures.

Consoles set to install updates automatically should receive the patch without user action. The update can also be downloaded manually from the game’s update menu.

Starfield launched on PlayStation 5 just over a month ago. Bethesda is continuing to release post-launch updates for PS5 and other supported platforms to address remaining platform-specific bugs and stability issues.
