State of Play: Wolverine and God of War Laufey headline PS5 slate
Sony’s State of Play opened with Marvel’s Wolverine and closed with God of War Laufey, and presented release dates and trailers across 2026 and 2027.
Sony presented a more-than-hour State of Play broadcast that opened with Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine and concluded with Santa Monica Studio’s reveal of God of War Laufey for PlayStation 5. The show provided release dates, demos and trailers for games arriving in late 2026 and into 2027.
Release dates confirmed for 2026 include Marvel’s Wolverine on September 15; Dune: Awakening on September 22; Control Resonant on September 24; Silent Hill: Townfall on September 24; Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 25; Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve on October 2; and remasters Rayman Legends Retold and Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered on October 1. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is dated February 12, 2027, and multiple projects target 2027 releases.
Insomniac’s Wolverine footage emphasized close-quarters combat and showed members of Team X, including Jean Grey, in gameplay takedowns. Santa Monica Studio described God of War Laufey as a mainline PS5 entry that follows Laufey (Faye), warrior and Kratos’s wife, as she fights through an afterlife shaped by dangerous magic; no release window was provided.
Remedy released a story trailer for Control Resonant depicting a Manhattan warped by paranatural forces. The game centers on protagonist Dylan, his evolving powers, and a shapeshifting weapon called the Aberrant, with Jesse Faden returning to the narrative.
Capcom detailed Onimusha’s combat systems — including Parry, Deflect and Issen — and published a roughly 30-minute demo. Dune: Awakening’s PS5 version will add a single-player mode and a new cinematic chapter. Bandai Namco highlighted Ace Combat 8’s campaign and a roster of 30 aircraft.
Other projects announced include Moon Studios’ No Rest for the Wicked, a Souls-like action-RPG due this October with more than 100 hours of content; Unseen’s Kemuri for PS5 in 2027 with online co-op; Great Ape Games’ The Lost Wild in 2027; Phantom Blade Zero, which will receive a dedicated State of Play ahead of a 2026 launch; and a standalone Until Dawn sequel from Firesprite scheduled for 2027.
Smaller titles and updates shown included ILL, which demonstrated dismemberment mechanics and physics-driven encounters; Bancho The Chef, a standalone prequel to Dave the Diver with DualSense features; MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, which added Magneto, Green Goblin and Carnage; and Marathon’s Season 2 update, with an open play week from June 2 to June 9.
PlayStation Plus additions announced include RuneScape: Dragonwilds as a future day-one Game Catalog title. PlayStation Plus Premium will receive Gitaroo Man later this month, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy in July and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in August. Several games shown at State of Play offer demos, pre-orders and special launch editions through publishers and the PlayStation Store.
The broadcast mapped release timing and early-access details for single-player and multiplayer titles across late 2026 and into 2027.
