Steins;Gate Re:Boot launches on PS5 with new story route
Steins;Gate Re:Boot, a remake of the 2009 time-travel visual novel, is available on PS5 for $59.99 in digital and physical editions.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot is now available on the PlayStation Store for PS5. The standard edition costs $59.99 in digital and physical formats. The game is also available on PC, Xbox and Nintendo consoles.
Developed by MAGES., the remake rebuilds the original visual novel with redesigned character art, backgrounds and key scenes. The story follows Rintaro Okabe, a technology-focused student whose group discovers a way to send messages into the past. Their experiments alter the timeline while global conspiracies emerge.
The remake adds a Gamma Worldline route. In this timeline, the time machine was never completed, so D-Mails, which previously allowed characters to send messages into the past, do not exist. The game’s description says the route presents “a new kind of brutality” for Okabe and the player.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot contains twice as many still images and 20% more background graphics than the original. It uses E-mote technology for smoother character animation, a remastered soundtrack by composer Takeshi Abo and newly recorded Japanese voice lines.
The $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition includes a digital art book, the full soundtrack, live event footage and the spin-off game Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space. A physical SteelBook Edition costs $69.99.
Players who buy a physical copy must install the day-one update before starting the game. The developer warns that installing the update after playing will delete existing save data.
Steins;Gate launched on Xbox 360 in 2009 and has sold 4 million units worldwide.
