Steins;Gate Re:Boot will launch in Japan on Aug. 20, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and includes English language support.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot will release in Japan on Aug. 20, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and the build will include English language support. An official announcement described Re:Boot as “a true reboot of the legendary story of time and fate” and highlighted “beautifully remastered visuals.”
The updated edition is presented as a full reboot of the original visual novel. It features remastered graphics, a refined user interface and an expanded story that adds an original scenario to the existing plot. The announcement said Akihabara has been recreated using period references to give the setting greater visual depth. Character artist huke returns with redesigned outfits and accessories for the cast. The publisher noted systems have been optimized to provide different ways to experience the story for new players and longtime fans.
Only the Japanese release date has been formally confirmed so far. The announcement specifically lists Xbox Series X|S for the Aug. 20 launch; other platforms and international release dates were not listed. The inclusion of English language support in the Japanese build has led to public speculation about a western release, but no additional dates or regions have been announced.
Steins;Gate first launched in Japan in 2009 on Xbox 360, followed by a PC release in 2010 and later ports to PlayStation platforms. The series has received positive critical response: the PC edition holds an 87 aggregate score on Metacritic, and the Steam release has largely positive user reviews. The original Xbox 360 release remained limited to Japan, making the new Xbox Series X|S announcement notable for players outside Japan.
The story centers on Rintaro Okabe and a group of friends who discover a way to send messages to the past, triggering timeline changes, conspiracies and conflicts over fate. Re:Boot will include brand-new scenarios in addition to the classic plot elements and retains the time-travel themes that define the franchise.
