Steins;Gate Re:Boot out Aug. 20 on Xbox/PC, Oct. 29 on consoles

Steins;Gate Re:Boot, a rebuilt version of the 2009 visual novel, launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC on Aug. 20, 2026, and on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch on Oct. 29, 2026.

Spike Chunsoft confirmed that Steins;Gate Re:Boot will arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PC on Aug. 20, 2026, and on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on Oct. 29, 2026. The company said the title will launch fully in Japan in August, with Western releases staggered across platforms later in the year.

PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch versions will be offered in both physical and digital editions. The Xbox Series X|S and PC versions arrive first in August.

The reboot includes new audio and visual assets. All in-game voice lines were newly recorded in Japanese, and composer Tsuyoshi Abo remade the soundtrack. Developers redrew all character art, backgrounds and event still images from scratch; the number of event stills is about double compared with the original Xbox 360 release, and background visuals increased by roughly 20 percent.

The game adds next-generation animation through the E-mote engine to provide more natural facial expressions and subtle movements such as breathing. The release also features user interface updates and new story content.

Gameplay keeps the visual-novel format: player choices create branching endings. A core mechanic involves manipulating protagonist Rintaro Okabe’s phone to send messages to the past that change timelines. The narrative follows a group of students led by Okabe whose device gains the ability to send messages into the past, triggering conspiracies and altered timelines.

Spike Chunsoft provided platform and date details but has not disclosed pricing or which languages beyond the newly recorded Japanese voice track will be available. Steins;Gate originally released in 2009; Re:Boot is presented as a remaster and partial rewrite for current consoles and PC.
