Stranger Than Heaven Joins Xbox Game Pass in Winter 2026

RGG Studio’s action-adventure Stranger Than Heaven will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass in Winter 2026, Xbox confirmed at its latest showcase.

At the Xbox Presents showcase, RGG Studio confirmed Stranger Than Heaven will release on Xbox Game Pass on day one in Winter 2026. The studio showed a trailer, story details, character introductions and early gameplay footage.

The game covers five eras of modern Japan and five cities: Kokura, Fukuoka (1915); Kure, Hoshima (1929); Miniami, Osaka (1943); Atami, Shizuoka (1951); and Kamurocho, Shinjuku (1965). The narrative follows protagonist Makoto Daito and his friend Yu Shinjo and traces crime, ambition, showmanship, tragedy, identity and history across decades.

RGG Studio described Stranger Than Heaven as “an entirely new action-adventure game” and presented it as distinct from its recent detective and yakuza-style entries. The studio added that the story reaches a conclusion that is “almost no-one could predict.”

Gameplay segments shown outlined combat and exploration systems that combine RGG Studio’s action design with a period-focused setting. Trailer and demo footage highlighted shifting environments and social dynamics as the timeline advances and indicated player choices and relationships may intersect with larger historical events.

The showcase included a guest appearance by Snoop Dogg, who participated in the presentation and appears linked to one of the game’s character moments. RGG Studio first teased the multi-era premise at the Xbox Partner Preview in March; the Xbox Presents event provided a broader look at the cast and mechanics.

No specific release date beyond the Winter 2026 window was provided. RGG Studio is known for the Yakuza series, Like a Dragon and Judgment.
