Stray digital owners get free Switch 2 upgrade

Annapurna Interactive will give Nintendo Switch owners who bought Stray digitally a free upgrade to the Switch 2 edition; physical cartridges are not eligible.

Annapurna Interactive is offering a free upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Stray for players who purchased the game digitally on Nintendo Switch. Owners of physical cartridges will not receive the upgrade.

Digital buyers should see a 100% discount applied at checkout when they attempt to purchase the Switch 2 version through the Nintendo eShop. Accounts that own the digital Switch edition are expected to receive the full-price discount for the upgraded release.

The Switch 2 edition of Stray is scheduled for release on May 28. Annapurna says the new version will include improved visuals, support for 4K resolution, a higher frame rate, and mouse control.

Stray first launched in 2022 and arrived on Nintendo Switch systems on November 19. The game follows a cat protagonist in a largely abandoned city inhabited by machines and has been released on multiple platforms since its initial launch.

Owners who want the free upgrade should check the Nintendo eShop on their Switch 2 after the title becomes available; the discount should appear at checkout for eligible digital accounts. Annapurna’s announcement did not extend the upgrade to physical cartridge holders, and no trade-in program or compensation for physical copies was announced.
