Stray Switch 2 free upgrade not applied for digital owners

Annapurna Interactive says the planned free upgrade to Stray on Nintendo Switch 2 is not being applied for some digital owners of the original Switch version outside Japan. The company attributed the issue to a storefront backend error and said it is working with Nintendo to resolve the problem over the next few days.

The problem appeared at the Switch 2 launch when a 100% owners discount, intended to allow eligible Switch 1 digital owners to upgrade at no additional cost, did not show up on the console’s storefront for some customers.

Annapurna posted a brief statement about the disruption: “We working with Nintendo to get this fixed over the next few days, and apologize for the inconvenience.” The company did not provide technical details or a firm timeline beyond that period.

The free upgrade applies only to players who own Stray digitally on Nintendo Switch 1 and the offer excludes Japan. Annapurna’s announcement did not address whether owners of physical cartridges, purchases on other platforms, or other purchase methods are eligible or will receive compensation.

Players who encounter the issue should see the owners discount applied once Annapurna and Nintendo correct the backend storefront settings. Annapurna has not yet issued instructions for customers who already paid for the Switch 2 version or who continue to experience problems after the fix.
