Studio MDHR Developing Two New Cuphead Games

Studio MDHR announced two new Cuphead games are in development. The studio said the projects will expand the Cuphead universe but provided few details on scope, mechanics or schedule. No release dates, platforms or development milestones were disclosed, and the studio indicated more information will be revealed as the projects progress.

Studio MDHR was founded by brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer and released Cuphead in 2017. The game drew attention for its 1930s-inspired hand-drawn animation, run-and-gun gameplay and challenging boss fights. The studio later released a single-player expansion, The Delicious Last Course, which added new levels, a playable character and additional bosses.

The Cuphead franchise has expanded beyond games to include an animated series and licensed merchandise.

Studio MDHR did not specify whether the new titles will follow the original 2D run-and-gun design, explore other genres or target new platforms. The developer also did not disclose team size, budget or whether external partners are involved.

No financial details were released and the announcement did not address potential platform exclusivity or publisher relationships. Studio MDHR has previously developed core projects in-house while collaborating with platform holders and distributors for release and promotion.

The confirmation follows ongoing fan and developer interest in follow-ups to the original game’s formula. Studio MDHR has not provided timing for future updates.
