Super Mario Galaxy movie may hit VOD May 19
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s paid digital release may land May 19 after a seven-week theatrical run; Nintendo and Universal have not confirmed the date.
Industry sources indicate The Super Mario Galaxy Movie may arrive on paid digital platforms on May 19, an update from an earlier May 5 projection. Nintendo and Universal have not issued an official release date.
The film opened in early April. A May 19 target would place the home release after seven weekends in theaters, versus the earlier estimate that would have followed roughly five weekends. Universal currently guarantees a five-week theatrical exclusivity window for major releases and plans to extend that window to seven weeks in 2027.
At the global box office the film has grossed more than $747 million. Combined lifetime totals for the two Mario films have surpassed $2 billion. A paid digital release would make the title available for purchase and rental once the theatrical window closes.
A UHD digital edition is listed for pre-order on Amazon at $29.99, but that storefront listing does not confirm an official release date. Digital rollout timing can vary by region, with North America sometimes receiving paid downloads before Europe.
The Galaxy film was produced by Nintendo in partnership with Illumination and distributed by Universal. The 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie remained exclusive to theaters for six weeks during its run. Until Nintendo or Universal announces a date, timing and regional availability remain subject to change.
