Survios Layoffs Put Alien: Rogue Incursion Part 2 at Risk
Survios reports most development staff were laid off and the studio is “essentially shuttered” after the April 21 Switch 2 release of Alien: Rogue Incursion, affecting development teams.
Employees at Survios say the majority of the studio’s development team was laid off following the April 21 Switch 2 release of Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part 1: Evolved Edition. Staff posted messages on professional networking sites reporting that the studio is “essentially shuttered” and that core development roles were eliminated.
Combat designer Dylan Ralston wrote that he was told the studio “as it currently stands will be essentially shuttered, with all of the team members responsible for development being let go, including myself.” Ralston thanked colleagues and described the company as having provided financial support to his family during a difficult period.
Senior game designer Alissa Smith posted that she and “the majority of the development team” were affected. Smith noted she worked at Survios for three years and contributed to the release of Rogue Incursion across major VR platforms, a flatscreen adaptation, and subsequent console ports.
Employees’ posts indicate the cuts primarily affected teams responsible for daily development work. Survios has not issued a public statement with details on the number of layoffs or the reasons for them. There is no announced timeline for rehiring or plans to complete the next installment.
With the core development group reportedly dismissed, completing Part 2 would require rehiring, outsourcing, or shifting responsibilities to other teams; none of those actions have been confirmed. Players who reached the end of Part 1 may face uncertainty about whether the planned continuation will be finished.
Survios is known for virtual-reality titles and for adapting games to flatscreen and console platforms. The Switch 2 edition of Alien: Rogue Incursion followed earlier VR and flatscreen releases and console ports. Company operating plans and the future structure of development teams remain unclear as of now.
