Switch 2: What to buy before September price rise
Staff recommend Switch 2 games and accessories to buy before a September price rise; North American bundle offers Mario Kart World, Pokémon Pokopia or Donkey Kong Bananza.
Staff outlined which Switch 2 games and accessories to consider buying before a scheduled September price increase. Official hardware pricing will rise in the US from $449.99 to $499.99 and in the eurozone from €469.99 to €499.99. The console is sold as a single SKU with no alternate colour options.
An official North American Choose Your Game bundle lets buyers download Mario Kart World, Pokémon Pokopia or Donkey Kong Bananza. Australia and New Zealand receive a region-specific Pokopia bundle. The hardware is identical across official bundles. Retailers may offer their own bundles or include Game-Key Card titles to add value.
Staff selected several games rather than a single must-have title. One contributor wrote “My head says Pokopia, but my heart says Bananza. Either is guaranteed to produce face-aching smiles.” Another described Donkey Kong Bananza as falling short of Odyssey but sharing many similar qualities. A third summed up Mario Kart World by saying “it’s Mario Kart.” A separate recommendation highlighted Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for its strong port quality.
On accessories, staff were divided about buying extra storage immediately because Micro SD Express cards are costly. Opinions differed on purchasing a high-capacity card at launch versus waiting for discounts. There was agreement that investing in a quality controller and a protective carrying case makes sense for many owners, while the included controllers will meet the needs of other players.
The piece advised comparing official bundles and retailer offers before purchase. Because the hardware is identical across bundles, the best short-term value may be a deal that includes a preferred game or extra store credit. First-year releases are available now and combined offers that include large Game-Key Card titles appear in stores and in seasonal promotions.
Switch 2 launched just over a year ago and has accumulated a growing library of games. Additional high-profile releases are scheduled later this year, including a confirmed remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
