Switch 2 Nears 20M Sales; Nintendo Lowers FY2027 Forecast
Switch 2 has sold 19.86 million units since its June 2025 launch; Nintendo cut its fiscal 2027 hardware forecast to 16.5 million units.
Nintendo’s Switch 2 has sold 19.86 million units since launching in June 2025, surpassing a revised 19 million forecast. The company trimmed its fiscal 2027 hardware forecast to 16.5 million units and indicated higher console prices will factor into future planning.
The figures appear in Nintendo’s end-of-year financial report. Nintendo noted that launch-year demand was more concentrated than for previous hardware, a factor cited in setting a lower FY2027 target.
Under the adjusted pricing plan, Nintendo still expects to sell 16.5 million Switch 2 units and plans to continue promoting software to support hardware momentum.
For the fiscal year, net sales rose 98.6% to 2,313.0 billion yen and operating profit increased 27.5% to 360.1 billion yen. Nintendo attributed much of the gain to the Switch 2 launch and intends to support the platform with a steady flow of new titles.
Nintendo outlined an early 2026 release slate for Switch 2: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in May, Star Fox in June and Splatoon Raiders in July. The company noted other publishers also plan titles for the system.
In its statement, Nintendo noted: “Nintendo Switch 2 got off to a good start following its launch in June 2025. We aim to maintain the momentum for the hardware and see it delivered together with software into the hands of a wide range of consumers. For Nintendo Switch 2, we plan to release Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in May, Star Fox in June, and Splatoon Raiders in July. We intend to work to expand our Nintendo Switch 2 business by continuously introducing new titles while maintaining interest in previously released titles. Other software publishers also plan to release a range of titles.”
The company intends to expand the Switch 2 business through ongoing software releases and support for existing games, and emphasized software cadence and third-party support as price adjustments take effect.
Executives connected the year-over-year financial gains to demand for the new console while setting a more conservative hardware projection for fiscal 2027.
