Take-Two: Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Port ‘Doable’ but Paused

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says a Borderlands 4 port for Nintendo’s Switch 2 is feasible but development is on hold while Gearbox fixes issues on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said a Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4 is “doable,” but development is paused while Gearbox focuses on fixing technical issues on PC and Sony and Microsoft consoles.

Zelnick said the studio is addressing problems and wants to resolve them “from a consumer’s point of view” before expanding the game to additional platforms. He also said Take-Two has supported the Switch 2, but that the company’s “primary console platforms remain Sony and Microsoft.”

Development on the Switch 2 edition was put on hold earlier this year. The version had been delayed in September and digital pre-orders were canceled. A physical Switch 2 copy appeared in April, but Take-Two has not provided a new release date or timeline for the port.

Borderlands 4 launched last year on PC and both last- and current-generation PlayStation and Xbox systems. Reviewers noted the title’s shift to a more open-world design. After launch, players reported performance problems on some platforms, and the developer and publisher have released patches and updates to address those issues.

Take-Two’s statements keep the possibility of a Switch 2 release open while making clear that fixing the existing versions on PC and major consoles is the immediate priority. No schedule has been announced for when work on the Switch 2 edition will resume.
