Tati Gabrielle: Intergalactic character’s initials nod to JAM
Tati Gabrielle says Jordan A. Mun’s initials, J.A.M., are a deliberate reference to Naughty Dog’s original name, JAM Software, revealed during a recent interview clip.
Tati Gabrielle revealed that the initials of her Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet character, Jordan A. Mun, spell out J.A.M. and are meant as a reference to JAM Software. The remark was made during an interview about the Mortal Kombat 2 movie, and a clip from the interview was shared online.
Gabrielle discussed the character’s background, noting Jordan is mixed-race and that Jordan is a traditional Korean name. She added the initials were chosen deliberately and told the interviewer, “The initials for Jordan are J-A-M. For those that know, that’s a callback to the original creators of Naughty Dog and their name.”
JAM Software was the studio name used by founders Jason Rubin, Andy Gavin and Mike Goyet. Under that name the team developed the Apple II adventure Keef the Thief before rebranding to Naughty Dog after a breakdown in its relationship with publisher Baudville.
After the name change, the studio released Rings of Power for the Sega Genesis and the fighting game Way of the Warrior, and later achieved mainstream success with Crash Bandicoot on the PlayStation 1.
Naughty Dog has included small nods to its past in several projects. Few details about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet have been released, so Gabrielle’s confirmation of a J.A.M. reference is among the earliest concrete links between the title and the studio’s history.
Gabrielle combined the character’s cultural background with the deliberate initials when discussing Jordan A. Mun, adding a verified detail to the limited information available about the game.
