Techland Cancels PS4, Xbox One Versions of Dying Light: The Beast
Techland canceled PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases of Dying Light: The Beast, saying older consoles lack the processing power and memory to run the game as intended.
Techland has canceled the planned PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases of Dying Light: The Beast, the developer announced on social media. The 2025 survival-horror title will be released only on current-generation consoles and PC.
Techland attributed the cancellation to hardware limits. The studio wrote: “Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware. Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide. As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create.”
As development progressed, Techland concluded that porting the game to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One would require compromises that would prevent delivering the intended experience. The company did not provide specific technical metrics such as memory caps, CPU threading or GPU performance targets, and it did not offer a revised timeline for older-platform support.
Techland added that achieving the game’s visual fidelity and combat responsiveness requires resources older consoles cannot supply without lowering quality or altering gameplay.
Players who want to play Dying Light: The Beast can access versions on modern consoles and PC. Techland described the cancellation as a response to development realities and noted the team remains focused on delivering the game in the form they designed.
