The Adventures of Elliot Demo Tightens Pacing, Cuts Dialogue

Square Enix released a prologue demo for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. The game is developed by the team behind Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. The demo presents the opening hours and focuses on shorter dialogue scenes and faster pacing.

The Adventures of Elliot is a sprite-based action RPG with an overworld, dungeons, environmental obstacles that require specific weapons or abilities, keys and boss keys, and major boss encounters. The demo includes mechanics such as cutting grass for small amounts of currency and unlocking tools and attacks that open new areas and puzzles.

Hands-on impressions describe combat as tactile and responsive, with attacks that carry a sense of weight and tight controls on pixelated semi-3D maps. The design encourages steady progression through exploration, combat and puzzle-solving.

The demo reduces long exposition compared with recent smaller Square Enix RPGs. Reviewers noted occasional longer conversations in the prologue, but those scenes occurred less often and interrupted gameplay less frequently.

One hands-on write-up called the demo a ‘pleasantly smooth action adventure’ and expressed cautious optimism about the full release.

The full game is listed at £54.99. Reviewers noted price may influence purchasing decisions and expect the finished title to offer content that justifies that cost.
