The Grimm Reapress gets first trailer before May 2027 launch

NIS America announced The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster for May 13, 2027, and released its first trailer. The game is coming to Switch 2, Switch, PS5 and PC.

NIS America announced on Oct. 29, 2026, that The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster will launch on May 13, 2027, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The publisher released the game’s first trailer, which shows its hand-drawn visuals, storybook settings and gameplay.

The single-player adventure RPG from Nippon Ichi Software combines exploration, puzzle-solving and combat. Players will travel through eerie picture-book worlds called Grimmoires while following Mono, a young girl searching for a way to save her sister from Paper Mortis.

Paper Mortis is an illness that turns people into picture books and picture books into monsters. During her journey through the Libratarium, Mono will work with Mär, a monster seeking revenge. Players can command Mär to attack enemies, use his abilities to interact with the environment and tear through parts of the paper world to create new paths.

Using Mär’s abilities too often can cause him to go berserk, adding a risk to combat and exploration. Completing each Grimmoire will give Mär new abilities, including the power to breathe fire and fly.

The game features several other girls affected by Paper Mortis. Each Grimmoire presents an illustrated world based on one girl’s past and inner world, and each story ends with a boss battle. Players can revisit completed worlds to find additional rewards and use Mär’s new abilities to reach previously inaccessible areas.
