The Sinking City 2 Lands on PS5 with Solid Early Reviews

Frogwares has released The Sinking City 2 for PlayStation 5 through the PlayStation Store. The title arrives almost seven years after the original, following the series’ initial release on last-generation consoles.

The game is a survival-horror role-playing title set in 1920s Arkham. Players control investigator Calvin Rafferty, whose main objective is to wake his partner from a coma. The world features undead figures possessed by a force called the Slither and combines detective-focused investigation with survival elements.

The sequel retains a semi-open-world structure but adopts a more linear main campaign. Optional objectives and alternate routes are available and can change how difficult the core story is for players who pursue them.

The Sinking City 2 is offered in three editions on PS5. The Standard edition is priced at $49.99. The Deluxe edition costs $54.99 and includes an Arkham Field Kit. The Premium edition is $59.99 and adds the Holloway Manor side mission. The game is available to download now from the PlayStation Store.

At the time of release, the game holds a Metacritic average of 79 based on 33 critic reviews. Reviews describe the sequel as leaner and more focused than the first game and note improvements to stability and presentation. Several reviewers highlighted the game’s tense atmosphere, key narrative moments, and detective mechanics. Some called the game “an absolute triumph.”

Not all critics were positive. A number of reviews criticized the combat, arguing it provides little reason to use shortcuts on the map and can weaken level design. Other reviews pointed to moments of overwrought dialogue and stiff acting that affected narrative delivery.
