The Witcher 3 DLC Songs of the Past due in 2027

CD Projekt Red confirmed Songs of the Past, a new The Witcher 3 DLC, will launch in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and will skip PS4 and Xbox One.

CD Projekt Red confirmed a new expansion for The Witcher 3 titled Songs of the Past will arrive in 2027 and will be playable only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The studio noted the DLC will not be released for previous-generation consoles, including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Songs of the Past is the third expansion for the 2015 game and is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red developers. Fool’s Theory is also listed as a co-developer on the separate Witcher remake announced in 2022.

CD Projekt Red described the expansion as returning players to the role of Geralt of Rivia for “a brand new adventure.” The company has not provided further details on the expansion’s setting, story or gameplay features.

No exact release date beyond the 2027 window has been announced. Fans have speculated the DLC could connect to the next mainline entry after a cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4 was shown at the 2024 Game Awards, but CD Projekt Red has not confirmed any narrative ties.

The studio has not explained the technical or business reasons for excluding older hardware from the release plan.

The Witcher series began with a 2007 game based on the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher 3 launched in 2015 and has sold more than 60 million copies while receiving over 250 industry awards.
