THQ Nordic declines to explain $10 PS5 Darksiders upgrade

THQ Nordic is charging PlayStation 4 owners $9.99 to upgrade Darksiders: Warmastered Edition to PlayStation 5 while offering a free upgrade from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, according to the publisher’s release tied to the PS5 launch on May 21, 2026.

The publisher’s release lists the PlayStation 4 edition at €19.99 / $19.99, the PlayStation 5 edition at €29.99 / $29.99, and a PS4-to-PS5 upgrade priced at €9.99 / $9.99 for existing PS4 owners.

On Microsoft platforms, the release shows the Xbox Series X|S edition at €29.99 / $29.99 and states the Xbox One edition will increase from €19.99 / $19.99 to €29.99 / $29.99. The Xbox One-to-Series X|S upgrade is described as free for current owners.

The PS5 update includes native 4K rendering, a Photo Mode, support for DualSense controller features and a 60 frames-per-second option, the publisher said in its launch materials.

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is a remaster of the original Darksiders, which debuted on PlayStation 3 and was later remastered for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

When asked to explain the different upgrade policies, a THQ Nordic public relations representative responded “no comment.” The company did not provide further detail on whether the PS4 price will change or whether platform-holder policies affected the Xbox upgrade being free.

The publisher’s pricing notice cites amounts in both euros and dollars for each edition and the upgrade paths.
