Tifa Lockhart added to Street Fighter 6; more fighters coming
Capcom confirmed Final Fantasy VII’s Tifa Lockhart will join Street Fighter 6 as a guest fighter and announced additional new and returning characters for post-launch updates.
Capcom confirmed the additions during a presentation outlining Street Fighter 6’s post-launch content plan.
The company confirmed Tifa Lockhart, the brawler from Final Fantasy VII, will join Street Fighter 6 as a guest playable character. Capcom worked with Square Enix to adapt Tifa to Street Fighter 6’s systems and showed footage of her design and animations running in the game’s engine.
Capcom described Tifa’s moveset as a close-range, striking-based style that highlights hand-to-hand combat and has been reworked for the game’s Drive System and modern inputs. Visuals preserve key elements of her Final Fantasy VII appearance while using Street Fighter 6’s character models, lighting and expression system.
Capcom outlined a roadmap for additional fighters to arrive in planned post-launch waves. The company said the updates will include newly created characters and familiar series veterans distributed across seasons of paid downloadable content and free updates, but it did not provide release dates or a full list of names.
Technical work to integrate guest fighters included animation retargeting, balance testing and measures to maintain online stability. The development team is coordinating with tournament organizers and platform partners to schedule character launches and balance patches to limit disruption to competitive play.
Players and community figures posted clips and impressions of Tifa’s in-game sequences on social platforms and discussed matchup implications. Capcom announced it will share more information on release timing, pricing and availability in future communications and encouraged players to follow its official channels for detailed patch notes and schedules.
