PS5 Remake of 2002 Bullet‑Hell Classic Hits PlayStation Store
Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic – The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, a PS5 remake of the 2002 bullet‑hell shooter, is now on the PlayStation Store in Standard ($17.99) and Deluxe (on sale $24.99) editions.
Shanghai Alice Reprise released a PS5 remake of the 2002 bullet‑hell shooter Touhou Koumakyou: The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil on the PlayStation Store. The title is available now for PlayStation 5.
The game is offered in two editions. The Standard edition is priced at $17.99. The Deluxe edition is on sale for $24.99 and includes a music app that provides access to more than 30 tracks drawn from both the remake and the original release. Both editions include two versions of the game and the two versions are sold only as a bundle; they cannot be purchased separately.
Each edition contains New Classic and Classic modes. New Classic is a modern remake with high‑resolution visuals and background music rearranged by Touhou creator ZUN. New Classic adds an unlimited‑lives mode, a visible boss‑location indicator and an on‑screen player hitbox. Classic reproduces the 2002 release’s original gameplay and presentation; its in‑game text remains in Japanese.
Players can select shrine maiden Reimu or magician Marisa to resolve the Scarlet Mist Incident in Gensokyo. Gameplay follows the series’ danmaku bullet‑hell style, requiring players to dodge dense attack patterns while shooting through stages and boss fights.
The PlayStation Store currently shows an average user rating of 4.98 for the title. Shanghai Alice Reprise was formed by senior developers with Touhou series creator ZUN to update older Touhou entries for modern platforms and make those releases available on current consoles.
