Toys for Bob Hopes New Spyro Launch Starts a Series

Toys for Bob revealed Spyro: A Realm Beyond at the Xbox Game Showcase. Paul Yan, the studio head, told reporters in a recent interview that the developer hopes the title will be the first of several new Spyro the Dragon games.

Yan said the team plans to take creative risks with the 3D platformer while keeping the character’s core traits intact. He described the project as an opportunity to move the series into new territory while remaining respectful of its origins.

The studio frames the project as an evolution rather than a reboot. Yan said designers will adjust elements of the 3D platforming to align with modern design goals but did not detail specific gameplay changes.

Yan described the plan: “Our goal is that we want Spyro to live on for a long time. We want not just one new game, but many new games. We hope that this is the first of many. So we’re going to have to take some risks. We’re going to have to move into new territory, and our goal is to make sure that that evolution is always speaking to something that is authentic and reverential to building on the foundation of what is truly Spyro, and then we’ll take some leaps.” He added, “This will be ‘uncomfortable,’ but we wanna go there.”

Yan did not provide a release date or additional technical or platform details beyond the title reveal at the showcase. The Xbox presentation is the first public confirmation of a new Spyro entry, and the studio indicated additional projects could follow if the new game meets its goals.
