TressFX Arrives in Tomb Raider on Nintendo Switch 2
Aspyr added TressFX hair-and-fur rendering to Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition in a Switch 2 update released this week.
Aspyr updated Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 this week to add TressFX, a hair-and-fur rendering technology. The studio confirmed the change on its support page and said the update is available now for the Switch 2 version.
TressFX simulates individual hair strands and their motion to produce more detailed movement and shading. In the update, Lara Croft’s hair behavior and appearance have been altered so strands move and react differently during gameplay compared with the previous rendering.
Aspyr published a side-by-side comparison video showing Lara with and without TressFX to illustrate the difference. On its support page, the studio wrote: “We’re happy to share that we’ve added TressFX to Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition today! Out now on Nintendo Switch 2.” The studio also added a lighthearted note alongside the footage: “She might get muddy stealthing around Yamatai but I’ll be damned if our girl doesn’t always have a good hair day.”
The TressFX addition is part of ongoing post-launch support for the Switch 2 port released last year. Players who own the Switch 2 version will receive the TressFX improvements through the game’s standard update process on the console.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is a remaster of the original reboot that includes enhanced visuals and bundled content. The update focuses on character presentation alongside other technical adjustments made since the port’s debut.
