Untold Games: Switch still has ‘a lot of life’

Untold Games, which ported Batman: Arkham Trilogy and It Takes Two, says the Nintendo Switch still has ‘a lot of life’ and a loyal audience.

Untold Games, the studio that ported Batman: Arkham Trilogy and It Takes Two to the Nintendo Switch, said the console still has ‘a lot of life’ and a ‘genuinely loyal audience.’ The remarks came as the company discussed its work adapting major titles to the current Switch hardware and the prospect of continuing support even with attention on the upcoming Switch 2.

Elisa Di Lorenzo, co-founder and CEO of Untold Games, called the Switch ecosystem ‘remarkable’ and argued that player priorities extend beyond raw hardware performance. ‘Switch has a remarkable ecosystem and a genuinely loyal audience, and that combination has a lot of life in it,’ Di Lorenzo said. She added, ‘The platform has proven that hardware power isn’t the only thing players care about, and that’s a lesson worth taking seriously.’

Di Lorenzo warned that successful ports require planning early in development. ‘Any platform is challenging if it isn’t considered from the beginning of development,’ she said, noting that factoring platform-specific limits into a game’s architecture from the outset makes later conversion smoother. ‘When you’re working with a game that was built for different hardware, you’re often solving problems that were baked in long before you arrive,’ she said.

Untold Games adjusted performance profiles and control options to fit the Switch’s hardware when producing its ports. The studio described the Switch versions as well received and said the projects illustrated the trade-offs developers face when bringing larger, visually demanding games to a platform with different performance characteristics.

The company has completed at least two major Switch ports and indicated it may continue to support the console’s audience while allocating resources to address technical and design challenges in future conversions.
