Valheim launches on PS5 with 1.0, cross-play

Valheim 1.0 arrived on PlayStation 5 on Sept. 9, 2026, on the PlayStation Store for $29.99, coinciding with the game’s full 1.0 rollout to PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2.

Valheim, the Viking-themed survival game, launched on PlayStation 5 on Sept. 9, 2026. The PlayStation Store lists the game at $29.99. The PS5 release arrives alongside the full 1.0 rollout for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.

Version 1.0 adds the Deep North, a frozen biome with ancient ruins and new creatures. The update includes new weapons, additional building pieces and a craftable shovel designed to clear deep snow.

Cross-platform multiplayer is enabled from launch across PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC, allowing players on different systems to join the same worlds without waiting for later patches.

The 1.0 content is applied to existing worlds. Biome generation will only function correctly in areas that have not been explored; older save files remain at their last locations. The release adds achievements and a safeguard that prevents achievement unlocking when cheats are enabled, with certain developer commands such as “freefly” listed as exceptions. The official Valheim website states, “The achievement system will begin to track statistics from the moment you download the 1.0 version.”

The developers noted that there is no official mod support at launch, so mod functionality cannot be guaranteed after the 1.0 update. Performance optimizations in this build include reductions in microstutters when loading zones and faster save times, along with other minor improvements.

Valheim 1.0 is available on PS5 via the PlayStation Store for $29.99. On PC and Mac the game is available through Steam, the Mac App Store and the Humble Store, and on Windows through the Microsoft Store. The Nintendo Switch 2 release arrives with the same 1.0 content as the other platforms.
