A remaster of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North — Legacy Edition — is now on PS5. It costs $19.99 on PC and consoles with a 10% launch discount through Aug. 24.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North — Legacy Edition has appeared on the PlayStation Store for PS5 and is available on PC and current consoles. Aspyr produced the remaster from Snowblind Studios’ 2011 release. The Legacy Edition launched on Aug. 11 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and is available on Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG. The title will reach the Nintendo EU eShop on Aug. 18, 2026. The remaster is priced at $19.99 with a 10% discount for purchases through Aug. 24. A launch trailer has been released alongside the store listings.

The release preserves the original 2011 gameplay while adding performance and control upgrades for current hardware. It supports online cooperative play for up to three players and two-player local split-screen. User interface changes include visible health, mana and experience bars for party members. Other upgrades include refined enemy targeting, a new autosave system, gyro control support on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, and a 60 frames-per-second option on supported platforms. Several bugs reported by players have been fixed.

Platform features vary. The Nintendo Switch version does not support local split-screen or 60 FPS. A Hot-Swapping feature lets players switch control between characters during play and assign equipment, skills and abilities to computer-controlled allies, allowing more direct management of party composition.

The Legacy Edition retains the game’s darker Middle-earth setting, its role-playing progression, original locations and cameo appearances from the 2011 title.
