Weekend picks: Mina the Hollower, Indiana Jones, Star Fox

Staff named their weekend game picks in the site’s weekly “What Are You Playing” column, which compiles short notes from editors and contributors about what they plan to play over the coming days.

Features editor Jim Norman has reached the final area of Mina the Hollower after many difficult fights and plans to continue before moving to a less stressful title.

Editor Gavin Lane is playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on a Nintendo platform and praised the port’s lighting, visual detail and cinematic presentation. After acquiring an Analogue 3D device, he plans a Star Fox playthrough and justified the purchase with the comment ‘Well, it ain’t going to get any cheaper!’.

Acting deputy editor Matthew Reynolds is playing Star Fox 64 for the first time. He highlighted the main menu theme, the technical design of each stage and the presence of hidden objectives. He noted some aged mechanics and sharp difficulty spikes on harder routes and suggested a remake could be appropriate, adding that he hopes the name ‘Zoness’ remains.

Video producer Mai Ladyman is spending time with Mina the Hollower and has returned to No Man’s Sky, using cross-platform multiplayer to play with her fiancée.

Contributor Gonçalo Lopes resumed classic GameCube and Wii titles after a few races of XGIII: Extreme-G Racing. He plans to revisit Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Skies, MadWorld, The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces and likely move on to XGRA. His personal pick for the week is Rushing Beat X: Return of the Brawl Brothers.

The update was published amid a week of platform-related announcements, including Dragon Quest 40th anniversary reveals that featured another release of Dragon Quest XI, a first look at Dragon Quest XII and a new Monsters title. Other items covered on the site this week included a free Switch 2 demo of Resident Evil Requiem, the launch of the Pictonico! mobile app, the official reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Switch 2, and the addition of Donkey Kong 64 to the Nintendo Switch Online catalog.
