Where Winds Meet: Imperial Palace expansion arrives May 28
Where Winds Meet expansion Imperial Palace launches May 28, adding the Kaifeng Imperial Palace with more than 3,000 NPCs and PS5 Pro upgrades including ray-traced reflections and PSSR upscaling.
Where Winds Meet’s second major expansion, Imperial Palace, launches May 28 and adds the Kaifeng Imperial Palace, a one-million-square-meter environment populated by more than 3,000 dynamic nonplayer characters. The update includes PlayStation 5 Pro-specific features such as ray-traced reflections, an upgraded PSSR super-resolution mode and a target performance of about 60 frames per second.
Players enter the palace under the pretense of an investigation and join the Office of Martial and Virtue as undercover agents. Missions focus on court intrigue and investigations centered on the capital’s seat of power.
Inside the compound, the expansion offers everyday activities and combat challenges. Players can take part in cricket fighting, seasonal ice events, attempts to sneak royal meals and prison rescues. Exploration and combat encounters include the heavily guarded Sealed Treasury, the underground Confinement Tower and new world bosses named Silken Wrath and Royal Kitten.
The developer said the PS5 Pro edition unlocks additional hardware capabilities. Ray-traced reflections are intended to change how water surfaces such as moats and courtyard ponds mirror lantern light, moving clouds and character motion. The upgraded PSSR super-resolution mode is designed to sharpen small details, including roof ridges, ceiling paintings and lantern textures, and to reduce ghosting and flicker during rapid camera movements and rooftop dashes.
Performance targets list roughly 60 frames per second in large palace areas. Optimization work focused on maintaining stability in crowded streets, grand court events and large boss fights so the expansion’s dense NPC population and Wuxia-style combat run smoothly on the console.
“The expansion unlocks the Kaifeng Imperial Palace — a sprawling forbidden city spanning over one million square meters,” the developer wrote in a preview. Imperial Palace arrives May 28 and will be available with the stated PS5 and PS5 Pro enhancements at launch. The update is the game’s second major expansion and concentrates on narrative missions, open palace exploration and hardware-specific visual and performance upgrades.
